I actually have no problem with Salazar Slytherin being so untrusting if muggles and muggleborns because of the historical context of people trying to kill witches. And sure a prepared witch could escape but… muggleborns raised by muggle families to think witchcraft is evil and that’s why Hogwarts is hidden in the first place? Talk about paranoia fuel. But history marches on and Slytherin house being unwelcoming of muggleborns isn’t about safety and trust anymore. Though I think the pureblood obsession was definitely not as strong in the 40s or presumably muggleborn Tom riddle would have had a very different time there.
