This chapter is a major emotional journey. Undesirable Number One finds himself pining for his ex-girlfriend (probably Cho; it is unclear from the context) and entertaining unrealistic theories about the sword in order to get his way. And between the fallout of Ron’s departure, reminders of Dumbledore’s desertion, and the first trip to James’ and Lily’s graves, Harry, Hermione, and Martha will all find themselves shedding real tears. At least next week should be more cheery!

In the Godric’s Hollow chapter you were wondering about the meaning of the inscription on Kendra and Ariana’s graves. I think it’s possible that Albus Dumbledore picked it out as a warning and admonition to himself. He was caught up in the love and influence of Grindelwald and the result lies in the grave.
I have thought a lot about the Christianity thing in the wizarding world. I believe a lot of it just comes from the fact that the U.K.’s national religion is Christian Church of England. Because there’s a state religion, the nation culturally observes Christian holidays. Even if people are not Christian, they may very well find themselves saying “Happy/Merry Christmas” as a matter of course, and celebrating it (as a secular holiday), because it’s just very deeply ingrained. I attended school in the UK for most of my formative years, and we sang Christmas hymns and carols in all the schools I went to, though I remember having a bunch of Muslim and Hindu classmates. They went along with it – there were a bunch of Jewish people in particular in my Church of England high school choir, and we had a full-on hour-length Christmas Carol Service in church every December. I also remember holidays and practices of different religions featuring prominently in my education, probably because I had so many classmates who practiced other faiths. But even though they didn’t celebrate Christmas religiously, they all got Christmas presents (as far as I remember) and I went to a couple of their houses to see Christmas trees.
I probably didn’t have an opinion on Harry looking at Ginny’s dot until JK Rowling said that it was something that she really enjoyed writing about it. So I think it’s sweet.
That’s such a double standard for Phineas to insult everyone in Harry’s friend group but he doesn’t stand for anything against Snape…
Lol, I don’t even think that Cho got to girlfriend status.
I already do poorly in regular escape rooms to I would be horrible in Dumbledore’s escape room.
Harry wishing that he was dead with them was super dark.
