The sisters swap stories of being almost as awkward as Ron around famous people, battle for best (or worst) Fleur impression, and get grossed out by a lot of strange foods in this chapter. Watch out for talons!

I think the general think about house elves is that they like working and don’t mind how much it is, but they don’t want to be abused while they do it. For example, when Dobby is free, he’s eager to get back to work, he just wants to be able to choose who he works for. And it’s clear that he never goes back to anyone like the Malfoy family.
The Hogwarts house elves even start getting annoyed when Hermione tries to be sneaky and give them clothing. Hermione and her attempts to help other intelligent magical creatures is genuinely noble, because she at least acknowledges that the problem exists. Which is something that people tend to deny even in real life when the issue doesn’t affect them. But where she goes wrong is that she never asks them how they feel and simply takes it upon herself to decide what is right for them. Which is a kind of social justice that comes off as very condescending. I know that Hermione may have identified with the house elves considering that she is muggle-born and perhaps thought their plight is similar, but just by virtue of being human, she is far more privileged than they could ever be in wizarding society. Elves, centaurs and merpeople are all plenty intelligent, but their values and such clearly don’t fully match that of humans, which is why it’s not just for humans to exclusively decide their place in the world.
I think HP and the Triward Tournament could have been in the running but it ended up being a mouthful.
I was thinking that Ron would just stay up watching Victor sleep with starry eyes.
I wonder if there was enough blue at the Ravenclaw table to attract the Beauxbatons students. I thought the food replenished itself.
I wonder if Karkarof is speaking to Barty Crouch Jr or Mad Eye Moody.
I really wonder what was the mystery ingredient in Hagrid’s stew.
Hagrid’s crush on Mme Maxime is so cute.
I was so happy for the Hufflepuffs.
I always wondered why Harry was forced to compete despite being gravely underaged but this chapter was so explicit about the fact that if your name is chosen, there’s no backing out.
