Hey ladies, I wanted to say i vaguely remember JKR addressing the part of this episode about spells. The spells are the same for all wizards and only the inflection/accent changes. Also, the part about accidentally saying a spell or curse, like Aveda Kedavra… I think we are reminded throughout the books that charms and curses require concentration and purpose. “You have to mean it Potter” is what Bellatrix tells Harry when he uses the cruciatus curse on her. Like casting a Patronus, I imaging the more complicated and consequential the magic, the more purpose and concentration is required. The only exception to this I can think of is when Harry uses Septum Sempra on Malfoy in 6, but maybe the ill will was enough.

As a French speaker, your French was fine up until Martha said that her name was French. Ouch. At least she was aware of it!

I think the spells are the same because of the Latin base. The gestures have to be the same, though, such as Wingardium Leviosa’s swish and flick. But that’s a great point to bring up. I wonder if you ever got back to the Linguistic themed episode.

I’m surprised that Malfoy didn’t drop Hagrid’s class my now. While the fact that Draco tried to get Hagrid fired did nothing for the scene, the Lockhart comment was pretty hilarious.
I really like Martha’s derp voice for Ron.
Madame Maxime is not played by one of Donna’s friends from Mamma Mia (that’s Christine Baranski) even though the resemblance is there.
